2022 GMC Terrain

Of the Terrain's four trims, the SLT one comes right after the base trim. As a result, this compact crossover takes up the entry-level spot in GMC's lineup of utility vehicles and trucks, serving as the perfect family vehicle since it has a large cargo area and achieves above-average gas mileage.

For the 2022 model year, GMC eliminated the 252-horsepower turbo-four engine and gave all Terrain trims the same one: a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This engine produces 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain allows you to maneuver around town easily and accelerate quickly past other vehicles on the highway. While front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available that you must manually activate via a console-mounted controller.

With the standard configuration, the 2022 Terrain SLT gets an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive, the vehicle archives slightly lower numbers at 25 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. All numbers are about average compared to other vehicles in its class. Also, when properly equipped, the SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.

Stepping foot inside the SLT trim, you might think you're riding in a luxury vehicle. The heated seats are adorned with perforated leather upholstery, and the driver enjoys an eight-way power-adjustable seat. Five people can sit comfortably, and the cabin is well-insulated from outside noise. For cargo capacity, the vehicle has 29.6 cubic feet of space behind the 60/40 split-folding rear seats and folding down that space expands the area to 63.3 cubic feet. Likewise, the passenger seat easily folds down so you can load longer items, and the vehicle comes with a hands-free power liftgate. The user-friendly IntelliLink infotainment system sits on a 7-inch touch-screen display, giving you sharp graphics and a straightforward menu. Other standard features include Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Opting for the Infotainment Package adds an 8-inch touch-screen display, satellite radio, and a seven-speaker Bose stereo.

The 2022 Terrain SLT comes standard with a handful of safety features, some of which include pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. It also has the Teen Driver system, which lets you set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers. Several add-on safety packages are available. The Tech package includes front and rear parking sensors, a head-up display, and an HD surround-view parking camera system. Unlike other GM vehicles that project the head-up display on the windshield, this vehicle has a pop-up panel that sits on the top of the dashboard. With the GMC Pro Safety Plus package, you gain blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assist. Thanks to these impressive safety features, the vehicle earned a perfect safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
