You can also bring your mountain bikes and take advantage of the dirt paths. The teenagers will love to spend hours at the skate venue while the younger ones run around the playground. Be sure to bring your bathing suit to cool off in the Olympic-size swimming pool. When hunger kicks in, gather everyone around for a good meal at the pavilion. You can even have a birthday party or family reunion here by reserving a pavilion for the entire day. The facility can be found at 2112-2116 Singing Wind Dr., and it is open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. 2. Guadalupe You'll love this gorgeous location with its vast, green fields located on the Guadalupe River. Take a dip in the water on a hot day, bring your fishing rods, or simply spread out a blanket and open the picnic basket. The kids will love the slides, swings, and monkey bars on the playground while the adults look on. The venue even has a basketball and a volleyball court. We recommend visiting here at sunset, and don't forget your camera! The combination of the river with the orange and pink hues of the sky makes for a memorable experience. Louise Hays This locale is known for its stage area, where the city hosts events like festivals, concerts, and more. The area also boasts walking and biking trails, a splash pad, and a playground. Bring your kayak and your family dog and head out on the water. He'll love it! Or catch your dinner with your fishing rod. You can also rent a pavilion here for a large gathering of your family and friends. Stroll through the Pollinator Garden, filled with indigenous plants, creating a critical food source for butterflies, bees, beetles, moths, and hummingbirds. You can also paddle down the river, fish from the pier, play basketball and volleyball, and take the kids picnicking. You can even rent canoes and kayaks and stay overnight at the campground or mini cabins. Hike or Bike Down a Section of the Scenic River Trail Take the kids on a hiking or biking adventure down the 6-mile River Trail along the beautiful Guadalupe River and winds through Kerrville's park system. Begin your journey at the Riverside Nature Center, a wildlife and indigenous plant sanctuary. Pop in at the center to view the nature displays, fossils exhibit, and live critters. Get back on the trail and make your way for 0.7 miles down the trail to the picturesque Tranquility Island in the Guadalupe River in Louise Hays Park, where there's an interactive fountain, playground, bike rentals, and restroom facilities. Then, start with an appetizer for the table. We like the Boudin Balls, the stuffed jalapeños, the fried mozzarella sticks, and the fried alligator. Their homemade soups and salads are also a great way to start your meal. Try the Mamaw's shrimp gumbo or the shrimp salad. For your entrée, we suggest the fried catfish, the grilled salmon, or the shrimp and grits. For the kids, order the chicken strips, the Creole potato skins, or the crab cakes. La Four's is located at 1705 Junction Hwy and they are open every day except for Mondays. 2. Mamacita's Restaurant While the adults enjoy a delicious margarita or cold cerveza, the kids can have a fruit drink while everyone browses the menu. They have salads, burgers, steak, seafood, fajitas, and more. Vegetarians will love the veggie fajitas, the enchiladas verdes, or the cheese enchiladas. Kids will enjoy the Hagi burger, the fried chicken breast burger, or the bean and cheese burrito. Mamacita's is located at 215 Junction Hwy, and they are open every day of the week. 3. Save Inn This modest, unassuming diner serves delicious food and they provide great service. Stop here for your first meal of the day and enjoy an egg sandwich, eggs benedict, the country breakfast, the South of the border meals, or the oatmeal flapjacks. For the kids, order the French toast or the pancake meal. We like their sides as well, which include bacon, sausage, ham, refried beans, hashbrowns, and oatmeal. If you're stopping in for lunch, their bacon cheeseburger, patty melt, and mushroom Swiss burger makes a great choice. The little ones will be satisfied with the chicken strips or the hamburger. They also offer fresh salads, sandwiches, and steak.
