Spanning an area of over 6,300 acres, Kickapoo Cavern State Park was established in the early 1990s and is managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Besides the cave system, this place also features nearly 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. A well-known wildlife watching destination, this state park is home to large populations of whitetail deer, raccoons, gray foxes, and Montezuma quails.

2. Pedernales Falls State Park

Located about 65 miles east of downtown Kerrville, Pedernales Falls State Park offers plenty of recreational activities on the banks of the Pedernales River, welcoming water sports enthusiasts from all over the state throughout the year. Spanning an area of over 5,200 acres, this state park opened its doors to the public in 1971 and was created in an area originally occupied by a working ranch.

Getting from Kerrville to Pedernales Falls State Park takes a little over one hour by car via route US-290. Once you make your way here, some of the activities you can enjoy include wading, swimming, tubing, and fishing. This public recreation area is also a magnet for anglers, offering great opportunities to catch large specimens of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, common carp, and channel catfish.

3. Blanco State Park

A lively destination for swimming, hiking, boating, and camping, Blanco State Park is another great place to visit on a day trip or a weekend escape from Kerrville. Welcoming over 100,000 visitors each year, this place was developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Getting here takes about one hour via route TX-16.
